Real estate ads headed online ... but not to papers

No less startling, the majority of those real estate advertisers who are shifting their ad dollars online are not spending them on newspaper web sites. Those dollars are going to independent sites dedicated to snatching home buyers and sellers.

Gannet, Trib up classified ante

So reports PaidContent:
A deal between Gannett, McClatchy, and Tribune has been reached, on the fate of the jointly-owned online/classifieds businesses: Gannett and Tribune will increase each of their equity stakes in CareerBuilder and ShopLocal.com to 42.5%, and in online news aggregator and search site Topix.net to 31.9%.

Monster strikes back ... tentatively

Monster says that they hope it becomes the first tepid step into the larger world of collaboration with the stodgy old media, but there are some indications Monster is still simply testing the waters:

"The strategy is, is there a model that would work with the newspapers," Andrew McKelvey, Monster's CEO, told Reuters. "To date, we haven't found one." -- from the Reuters article
